Professional Teeth Cleaning
How Important are Professional Cleanings?
Our dentist will recommend you follow up for another cleaning every six months, in order to maintain maximum oral health. It also our dentist the chance to inspect your teeth and make sure they’re still healthy. If not, they will help repair and restore your teeth so they will be healthy once again. A professional teeth cleaning is important so that tartar and bacteria can be removed from your teeth. Tartar is plaque that has built up and hardened on your teeth. Even if you brush and floss regularly, tartar can still form on your teeth.
Removing Buildup from Your Teeth
Your dental cleaning begins with a thorough scraping of all surfaces of your teeth – front, back, chewing surfaces, between the teeth, and at the gum line – effectively removing plaque, tartar, bacteria, and other debris. We take the time to clean all of these spaces and remove even the most stubborn buildup.
Examining Your Teeth
We check for signs of damage and decay on your teeth and look over your gums for signs of redness, swelling, and any other abnormalities. This exam is important for detecting oral health issues in their earliest stages (when you may not notice them at home) and provide you with prompt, appropriate treatment to keep your mouth happy and healthy.
Polishing Your Teeth
Once your teeth have been examined, we finish your dental cleaning by polishing your teeth. This involves the use of an electric hand piece and a special dental polish. The polish contains abrasives that scrub your teeth clean and help to remove surface stains. We will floss your teeth as well, which will remove any lingering polish or dislodged buildup that has accumulated during your cleaning. If necessary, we can also provide you with a fluoride treatment.
Benefits of a Dental Cleaning
Dental cleanings offer several benefits beyond cleaning your teeth:
• Along with regular care at home, dental cleanings help to prevent serious oral health issues.
• Your breath is fresher when you leave the office.
• Clean, healthy teeth can help to prevent serious issues.
